Black Stars head coach Otto Addo has admitted that securing a victory against Sudan in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier is crucial for reviving Ghana’s hopes of qualification.
The West African giants are in a tough spot, having failed to win any of their first three Group F matches, with one loss and two draws.
As they prepare to face Kwesi Appiah’s Sudan in Libya on Tuesday, October 15, the four-time African champions are desperate for a win to stay in the race for a spot at AFCON 2025. Addo emphasised that a win would be the turning point for the team after a series of disappointing results.
“We had two good games with Angola and Sudan at home. In the next game, if we play the way we played in the last game, we will win,” Addo stated. He believes that despite the setbacks, the team’s performance has shown they are capable of beating their opponents, but what matters now is delivering the results on the pitch.
Otto Addo further pointed out that the group standings still give Ghana a chance to qualify. “I think it was good that Angola won. If Niger won and passed us, that would have been bad. I think the situation is still in our hands,” he added. “We need to win this match [against Sudan] and once we’re second, things will be back on track.”
